Santa Clarita Film Office Sets New Annual Film Days Record

Santa Clarita set new film records in Fiscal Year 2012-2013 (July 2012 – June 2013) with 1,069 film days representing an estimated $25.7 million in local economic impact from location filming alone.

The Santa Clarita Film Office recorded 1,069 film days and 368 permits for the last fiscal year, which represents an 18 percent increase in film days when compared to the City’s previous record year in 2011-2012.   The economic impact of local filming increased by 22 percent from 2011-2012 when the estimated economic impact was $21,141,500.

“Santa Clarita is one of Hollywood’s first-choices for location filming, as shown by yet another strong year for location filming,” said Mayor Bob Kellar.  “Filming is a big part of our business community and local economy, supporting high paying jobs and hundreds of companies involved in the industry.”

In March 2012, the City Council approved a three year extension of the City’s Film Incentive Program, which is dedicated to retaining and increasing feature and television production by reducing the costs of safety personnel and subsidizing permit fees.  Incentives are provided for locally based productions, productions that film on location four or more times in a year, as well as those that qualified for the state of California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program.

Santa Clarita locations have doubled as many cities around the world, including New York, Washington, D.C., and Paris.  Nearly half of location filming can be attributed to television shows shooting in the community, and many productions continue to make the City of Santa Clarita their home, including “NCIS,” “Switched at Birth,” “Chasing Life,” ”Wipeout,” “Franklin and Bash,” and “Justified.”
