Santa Clarita Public Library Relives The Past With A Month Of History Driven Programming

Beginning Saturday, November 2, 2013 and continuing throughSaturday, November 23, 2013, the City of Santa Clarita Public Library will host four weeks of programming for History Awareness Month at the three library branches, including Canyon Country, Old Town Newhall, and Valencia.

Each Santa Clarita Public Library branch, in partnership with several community partners, will offer FREE movie screenings, educational discussions and interactive activities including:   

  • November 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. – The Old Town Newhall Library will screen the feature film, Lincoln, in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.  
  • November 12, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. – Join Santa Clarita Valley historian John Boston at the Old Town Newhall Library as he discusses the famous Santa Clarita Valley landmark, Beale’s Cut. 
  • November 17, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. – The Valencia Library will screen the feature film, Lincoln, in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. 
  • November 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. – The Canyon Country Library will host Hart District educators, Laura Arrowsmith and Ron Ippolito, as they discuss the connection between the Gettysburg Address and the JFK Civil Rights Address.
  • November 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. – The Old Town Newhall Library will screen the feature film, JFK, in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the JFK Civil Rights Address.  
  • November 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. – Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Valencia Library with Ben Hale as he demonstrates traditional Native American dances.
