Saugus Girls Volleyball Team Sweeps Golden Valley In Foothill League Match

khts_sportsThe Saugus girls volleyball team swept Golden Valley to stay undefeated in Foothill League play and improve to 4-0.

Sarah Blomgren had 12 kills and 10 digs for Saugus. Setter Ashley Guthrie had 32 assists.

The Valencia girls volleyball team handed West Ranch its first loss in league. Delaney Knudsen led the Vikings with 12 kills in a sweep over West Ranch.

Sierra Sanchez had nine kills, 12 digs and three aces.

Angel Rutledge had a team-high 10 kills for West Ranch.

The Hart girls volleyball team beat Canyon in three games. Amy King and Catherine Cambra each had seven kills to lead Hart.

In college volleyball, The Master’s College women lost to Vanguard, the No. 21 team in the NAIA, in four games. Samantha Dougherty had a team-high 14 kills for The Master’s College. Rachel Taylor had 10 kills and eight digs in the loss.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men beat Hope International, 4-1, scoring all four goals in the first half. Jorge Serrano scored the first goal of the game and had an assist on the second goal for The Master’s College.

The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team beat Citrus College, 3-2, behind a goal and an assist from defender Casey Wesley.

In high school golf, the West Ranch girls won the fourth Foothill League match of the season by 19 strokes over Hart and Valencia at Balboa Golf Course in Encino.

West Ranch freshman Julie Ward shot a 2-over par 40 and shared the low round of the day with Hart’s Jamie Corr.

Bryan Herta Autosport will have two entries in the season-ending Izod IndyCar Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend.

Alex Tagliani will be in the No. 98 car owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta. Dan Wheldon, who won the Indianapolis 500 in a Bryan Herta Autosport entry, will be in the team’s No. 77 car.

Tagliani won the pole position at the Indianapolis 500 in May and has six top-10 finishes in the IndyCar Series this year.

Wheldon will be making his third start of the season in the IndyCar Series. He is coming off a 14th place finish at Kentucky Speedway.

The IndyCar World Championships at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is set to start on Sunday at noon.

Ron Hornaday Jr. will look to add to his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career win total at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend.

Hornaday, a four-time Truck Series and former Saugus Speedway champ, is fresh off the 50th Truck Series win of his career at Kentucky Speedway. He has never won at Las Vegas, but has five top-five finishes in 10 races.
