SCV Fishing Report December 20th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

Here’s the latest freshwater reports:
1)  Castaic Lake….Trout fishing remains fair to good because of a couple of trout plants here.  The stripped bass are also interested in those trout….several stripers in the ten pound class have been caught.; try the West Ramp or the Dam. For bluegill, crappie or catfish, try the lagoon.
2)  Pyramid Lake….A lot of small trout were planted here a couple weeks ago.  Bass and bluegill fishing remains fair.  Try cut baits for a decent catfish bite.  Stripped bass fishing has slowed down this past week.

3)  Lake Piru….Very slow fishing for all species this past week, due to rain and wind.
4)  Lake Cachuma….Prior to the full moon, the largemouth bass and crappie went on the chew.  Try the Narrows or Santa Cruz Bay.  On Tuesday, 12/13 there was a 4,000 pound trout plant here.  The bass remain deep and lethargic.

Saltwater Reports:
Lndings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:  Rockfish and sculpin are the name of the game.  On Sunday, The “Spitfire” out of MarinaDelRey with 20 anglers caught 55 red snapper, with most of those in the 4-6 pound range!
In addition, 70 other rockfish, 50 sculpin, and 7 sheephead were caught; not bad for a 3/4 day trip.  The other landings are getting lots of assorted rockfish along with some lings, sculpin, sheephead, whitefish and sand dabs.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:  Still plenty of ling cod are being caught on the 3/4 day and overnight trips.  Full limits of rockfish is a typical scenerio on most trips that get out when the weather permits.  Bonus fish include speephead, whitefish, sculpin and cabezon.

….Halibut Hal wishes you all a Happy Chanukah and/or Merry Christmas!
