Welcome to the Senior Hour right here on Santa Clarita’s Hometown Station, AM 1220 KHTS. This is a show for, about and by seniors. For today’s show, our guest is Chuck Morris. Chuck is from the Friendly Valley Veterans Club here to talk about bringing the traveling Veteran’s Memorial Wall to Santa Clarita.
The wall is a 80% replica of the one In D.C. it is 360 feet long, it is not a little thing, and all 58 thousand names are etched into this thing. It has all the names of the soldiers that fell during that war. This wall travels all over the western united states and has been doing it since the late 90’s.
Every memorial day, names are added to both the wall in DC and the traveling wall, the names of Vietnam veterans who fell. The wall is a memorial to the veterans of the Vietnam War.
I had herd of a traveling wall that the veterans group in Ventura had. In friendly valley we also march and have a service every Memorial Day, and I thought, what a grate idea it would be to bring this traveling wall to our event not knowing anything about the wall. I called the Ventura group and asked about it. They said you need to reserve it 6 months in advance, and then they told me it was over 300 feet long. So obviously that was not going to work for our little event.

So I started thinking about it. The way veterans in Vietnam where treated is deplorable and I wanted to do something for them. So I talked to a company in Florida who has a traveling wall and they do not travel to the west coast. But there is a company in Texas that does the same thing, so I started to talk to him. Well this is all very interesting but we have to take a brake, stay with us right here on your Hometown Station, AM 1220, KHTS.
Welcome back to the Senior Hour. We are speaking to Chuck Morris. Well what I did is I contacted the people in Texas and asked them about the wall and how to get it. The wall that is coming to Santa Clarita is an actual 80% replica with all the names etched into the wall.
