Broadway and Hollywood came to the Santa Clarita Valley Sunday night, Oct. 22, as an all-star cast took center stage at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center to perform a dozen of the most popular songs by legendary musical theatre composer Stephen Schwartz, the evening’s special guest star.

The six-time Tony nominee, whose credits include music and/or lyrics for “Godspell” (1973), “Pippin” (1972), and “Wicked” (2003) on Broadway and an Academy Award for music for the animated features “Pocahontas” (1995) and “The Prince of Egypt” (1998), also appeared in the second half of the show. Seated at the piano, he thanked and praised the other performers and the Theatre Project, and, apologizing for his jet-lagged voice, performed “For Good” from “Wicked” (a new production of which will open in February 2007 at the Pantages in Hollywood), earning a lengthy standing ovation.
