The Story of Bergamo Outdoor Living

There is a reason that Italy is known as the land of love, or amore, and it goes far beyond the obvious romanticism of her people. For centuries, the artistry and passion of Italian civilization has invited the rest of the world to stand reverently in awe at its music, its art, its architecture – and it’s countryside. From Rome to Napoli to Venice to the smallest village on Sicily, Italy is like a symphony waiting to be explored.

It was this passionate invitation to explore that drew Lawrence’s grandfather back to the Italian landscape again and again. Although he had been to the far corners, the friendships formed with the Italian people were like none other. And when Lawrence was old enough, his grandfather would share with him this love affair with Italy – and his most valuable gift, his lifelong friendship with Ehno Cardone.

Over the many years, Ehno had become a travel guide and personal ambassador to Lawrence’s grandfather – and to Lawrence. Recognizing Lawrence’s passion and keen eye for structure and beauty, Ehno Cardone began to share his knowledge of Italian artistry and architecture. Together, year after year, the three men would meet and travel the rustic, beautiful Italian countryside, appreciating and discussing the endless array of materials and the importance of detail and inspiration in all things. On one trip, they would analyze the colors of the mosaics, perfected over a millennia by artisans – on another, they would wonder at the beauty of the veins and subtle hues of a single piece of granite or marble.

Years later, Lawrence took his love for detail and entered into the surfaces industry. He had found a way to share his passion for design and artistry here in the United States. Amazingly, Lawrence realized his dream – he began bringing the Italian passion for detail affordably into homes all over the country.

After many years and hundreds of amazing surfacing products in every material imaginable, it is this inspiring sense of design that led Lawrence to his latest creation, the Bergamo natural stone pavers line.
