The Gazette Radio Hour- Friday, October 11, 2013
The Santa Clarita Valley Gazette and Free Classifieds Radio Hour crew brought a particularly unique and informative first half hour to their latest show. Hosts Doug Sutton and John Rogers brought sitting (and currently running for re-election) City Councilman TimBen Boydston to talk about the recent environmental impact report. With the election coming up, Councilman Boydston is fighting to inform potential voters (and the local community, for education’s sake) about the issue of farmers down the 126 Freeway claiming their crops (mainly avocados and strawberries) are suffering from high levels of salt and chlorine coming from the Santa Clarita water. They are demanding compensation and new laws are being proposed to add cleaner water into their water supply. Councilman TimBen Boydston explains however, that none of the farmers have any evidence that their crops are affected by the water, and the real issue is that farmers down the 126 Freeway do not have access to enough water. If these new laws are passed, Councilman TimBen Boydston warns the Santa Clarita Valley will be paying the buck for an enormous expense that Ventura County farmers are using the Federal government to force the SCV into paying for their water. Bottom Line issue is that, this is a scam, and is about water quantity, not water quality. This will make Santa Clarita residents pay hundreds of dollars a month. Councilman TimBen Boydston brought a city map to clearly illustrate the amount of water that Ventura County is demanding from the Santa Clarita Valley, and all because they have a dire need for water that they do not believe they will have access to any other way.
