The Hundred Dresses By Maddison Copley

Good morning KHTS listeners.

Hi my name is Maddison Copley and I am a fourth grader at Pico Canyon Elementary
School in the Newhall School District.

I'll be reviewing The Hundred Dresses, written by Eleanor Estes and illustrated by Louis Slobodkin. It was written in 1944 and is 80 pages long.

This is a story about a girl named Wanda who gets taunted by her classmates. Wanda lives in a poor neighborhood, has an out of the ordinary last name, wears the same blue faded dress everyday, is quiet, and has no friends. Wanda has to deal with the pressure of her classmates who don't accept her the way she is.  She tries to be more like they are, but things only get worse.

It's not until too late that her classmates realize how much damage they've done. They find out what a mistake it was to not appreciate the things about Wanda that made her different and unique. I think this a great story because it reminds us how hurtful teasing can be and how all people just want to fit in. I'm sure all kids, boys and girls, will love this story because everyone has experienced these problems in some way in their own life.
