The Real Side with Joe Messina – April 17, 2013
Is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (also known as ADHD) on the rise? Dr. Robert Melillo thinks that it is. One in five boys are diagnosed with ADHD and medicated- with drugs listing serious side effects- for ADHD, yet there is no definitive test for the disorder. What can do to help our young people and their parents? Why is ADHD more prevalent now than it was in the past? Are we reporting and diagnosing it better, or are their environmental factors that contribute? Dr. Melillo and Joe discuss the possibilities.
Dr. Robert Melillo is an internationally known lecturer, author, educator, researcher and clinician in the areas of neurology, rehabilitation, neuropsychology and neurobehavioral disorders in children. He’s also an expert in nutrition with more than 20 years of clinical experience. His professional expertise and professional drive to find a cure for neurobehavioral disorders started 15 years ago after seeing the life-altering changes that occurred within a child he had worked with. From that point, he has devoted himself to the study of learning disabilities and behavioral disorders in children. Driven by his deep interest in and intensive studies of neuro-behavioral challenges he developed Hemispheric Integration Therapy (H.I.T.) – a multi-modal approach to the remediation of ADHD, dyslexia, autism, Asperger’s, Tourette’s, learning disabilities, and processing disorders along with other neurobehavorial disabilities found in children.
