Dr. Gene Dorio and Barbara Cochran started off their latest edition of the The Senior Hour with a very exciting debate. Barbara metaphorically doned her referee uniform for the showdown between Dr. Gene Dorio and their guest, Arif Halaby on a discussion about health care. Both Arif and Dr. Gene Dorio have lived lives of servitude towards their community. Arif served as a police officer in Los Angeles for years and Dr. Dorio, as a doctor healing the sick and wounded in our community. While they both love to care for mankind, they have two distinctly opposing views of how to apply healthcare to the millions of individuals in the United States. With the Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare) in effect, many seniors are struggling to understand the scope of this new law’s effect. So Dr. Gene Dorio who supports the ACA (for the most part) and Arif Halaby who adamantly opposes it, spoke back and forth and what they perceive to be the pros and cons of this new law, and more importantly, soon to be a new way of life for Americans and specifically, senior citizens. After their debate, Arif Halaby shared with the hosts of The Senior Hour, about criminals scamming seniors during one of their most critically vulnerable chapters in their lives – death. Arif describes how waiting until the last minute to prepare for funeral arrangements and everything involved with the process of losing a loved one is a very bad decision. If one can prepare their loved ones arrangements before their death, then scammers have no opportunity to take advantage of anyone.
