‘Too Toxic To Trash’ Roundup At College Of The Canyons Nov. 9

The City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, will host a FREE Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Roundup onSaturday, November 9, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at College of the Canyons in the South Parking Lot, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.

This event is open to the public and designed to provide the community with a convenient and legal way to dispose of household hazardous waste and e-waste objects.  Items may include: brake fluid, paint, cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides, household batteries, car batteries, pool chemicals, computer monitors, televisions, cellular phones, and fluorescent light bulbs.

“Most people have hazardous waste products at their home that they want to get rid of, but they just don’t know where to take them,” commented Mayor Bob Kellar.  “These items must be disposed of properly for the health and safety of the community and I encourage residents to bring those items to the Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Roundup for free, proper disposal.”

This is the 25th consecutive year the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County have partnered with the City to provide residents with a safe way to dispose of hazardous household materials.

Items should be placed in a sturdy box, preferably in their original labeled containers, and not mixed with other hazardous materials.  A limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste will be accepted per trip.  Items NOT allowed at the event include: hazardous waste and electronic waste from businesses, explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, trash, tires, refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, and controlled substances.
