Great News! Wallers’ GymJam Academy Gymnast Signs Letter of Intent For a Full-Ride Athletic Scholarship to U of WA.

Kailey Hansen, of Ventura signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to attend University of Washington on a full athlete scholarship for gymnastics. Hansen, who trains at Wallers’ GymJam Academy in Canyon Country, CA will begin her collegiate career in the fall of 2009.

Hansen is a Level 10 State Floor Champion and placed second on floor at the 2008 Regional Championships. She is trained by 1992 Olympian and 2004 Olympic Coach, Chris Waller, 2004 Olympic Silver medalist, Mohini Bhardwaj, and Bob Matthews.

Hansen is a senior at Foothill Technology High School in Ventura and commutes five days a week from Ventura to Canyon Country to train at Wallers’ GymJam Academy. She began gymnastics at four years old where she went to a gym near her home in Ventura. In a few years, she progressed beyond what the gym locally could provide and switched gyms until eventually arriving at GymJam where she was able to train to her potential.

“Kailey has worked extremely hard to make dramatic improvement in a short period of time” said her coach, Chris Waller. “She competes with a poise and confidence that distinguishes her as a truly artistic performer. Her teamwork and sincere smile will help propel the Huskies to new successes in front of thousands of Washington fans.”

When asked why she chose U of W, Hansen replied, “I choose the University of Washington for the beautiful campus, great academics, awesome coaches and amazing team bonding that I immediately felt and saw. My goals are to continue to improve and become a great college gymnast for the team. I will study pre-med at UW.”

Other seniors graduating from Wallers’ are Chloe Takayanagi who will be a walk-on gymnast for UCLA, and Rebeca Poore who is still considering options at various California schools and University of WA.
