Wilk Weekly Update – June 12, 2013
Assemblymember Scott Wilk will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the Environmental Impact Report on chloride levels in the Santa Clara River this Saturday.

Assemblymember Steve Fox was also scheduled to attend the meeting, but cancelled and will be voting on the budget instead, according to Sandra Kramer, Fox’s press aide.
“We are learning more about the chloride, and appreciate what Assemblyman Wilk is doing,” Kramer said.
The meeting is schedule for this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Activities Center on Centre Pointe Pkwy.
“One of the reasons why Fox and I decided to do this was because we had two goals: No. 1, there have been public hearings but they’ve all been on weekday nights,” said Wilk, “No. 2, to see if there’s a legitimate role for us to play.”
June 24 is the deadline for the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce to publicly comment on the Environmental Impact Report on chloride in the Santa Clara River.
“Right now the sanitation district is being regulated by the regional water quality board,” said Wilk, “But there may be things that we can to do to try to positively impact the situation.”
Sanitation District officials must complete the Environmental Impact Report by the end of October. Officials must demonstrate to the State Regional Water Quality Control Board how they plan to reduce chloride levels for Santa Clarita Valley’s watershed.
“We’ve got the Sanitation District coming to do a presentation, Newhall County Water will be doing a presentation, Castaic Lake Water Agency is going to be doing a presentation,” Wilk said.
The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce will also host a special presentation on the Environmental Impact Report next Friday, June 21. They will outline various ways to lower chloride levels to meet government mandates.
Basil Hewitt, senior engineer of the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District will speak as well as Dan Masnada, general manager of the Castaic Lake Water Agency.
The presentation will cover all aspects of the issue, with a focus on the Environmental Impact Report and immediate action to make sure all voices are heard.
