College of the Canyons Track and Field put on a strong performance in the Southern California Prelims over the weekend.  Seven Cougars qualified for the finals in their event, with three advancing to the State Championships in Cerritos on May 24.  The three moving on are Brittany Uhl in the heptathlon, Justin Skinner in the decathlon, and Ismael Samano in the 10K run.

Friday’s Foothill League baseball action featured first-place Hart dominating Canyon behind 13 Trevor Bauer strikeouts.  The Indians won 13-0.  Saugus defeated Golden Valley, 16-0, while Valencia also beat West Ranch.

Hart softball rebounded nicely from their loss to Valencia on Thursday.  The Indians dominated the Thousand Oaks Tournament, defeating the host team 3-1 in the championship game.

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated Utah, 109-98, in Kobe Bryant’s first official game as the league’s MVP.  Game two is scheduled for tomorrow night.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had an eight-game winning streak snapped by Colorado yesterday.  The Dodgers start their next home stand today, with a three-game series versus the New York Mets, live on KHTS at 6:30pm.
