Hometown Sports Report 3-31-08

Its opening day around Major League Baseball and Santa Clarita is well represented this year.  Former Hart High pitcher James Shields gets the opening day start for the Tampa Bay Rays when they take on Baltimore.  The Orioles also feature Santa Clarita star Kevin Millar.  The Chicago White Sox break camp without Hart High outfielder Jerry Owens, who is on the 15-day Disabled List.  Former COC pitcher Dana Eveland will be the Oakland A’s fourth starting pitcher.  You can catch the Dodgers all season long on KHTS, starting today when the San Francisco Giants come to town at 12:30p.m.

Former COC Football star David Stanton has been picked up by the Arena Football 2 League’s Spokane Shock.  Stanton spent two years on the D-line at COC, before transferring to MichiganState and earning second-team All-Big Ten honors.

The Valencia Vikings have taken over first place at the top of the Foothill League baseball standings following a masterful 5-1 win over Hart on Friday.  Saugus hung a 12 spot on the board to beat Canyon, 12-5.  West Ranch continued to play well, beating Golden Valley 16-3.

The Los Angeles Kings lost 7-2 to Dallas on Saturday.  The Kings take on San Jose tomorrow night at 7:30p.m.
