It was a day of eights at West Ranch High School yesterday.  The Valencia Vikings secured their eighth straight Foothill League Championship, although they share it with Hart, after scoring eight runs in the first inning of a 14-0 victory.  The Vikings and Indians flip a coin this morning to determine the number one seed representing the Foothill League.  Saugus beat Canyon 12-2 in a replay from a protested game, giving the Centurions third place in league and the final guaranteed playoff berth.

The number one boy’s volleyball team in the country looked all the part yesterday at Valencia High School.  The Vikings cruised to a three-game sweep of Irvine in the first round CIF playoff contest.

College of the Canyons softball had three girls’ named to the Western State Conference All-Conference teams.  Freshman Lauren Rose from Valencia High was named to the first team after leading the Cougars in just about every statistical category.  Jeralyn Gates and Sarah Hasenfus were honorable mentions.

The Los Angeles Lakers arrived in Utah yesterday, where they will play game three of their second-round series with the Jazz.  Utah only lost four games at home during the regular season, but one was to the Lakers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers got a much needed day off yesterday.  The Dodgers will host Houston in a three-game series, starting this evening live on KHTS at 7:00pm.
