The quarterfinal round of the CIF Southern Section Division I softball playoffs will take place today throughout Santa Clarita.  The two co-champions from the Foothill League both face formidable opponents at home.  Defending CIF and National Champion Valencia will host Corona, who finished a deceiving third in the Mountain View League, perhaps the only league in California that rivals the Foothill League in talent.  Hart will host Norco, a game that should be dominated by pitching.  The Indians are looking for their first ever CIF Championship after a disappointing loss to Valencia  Valencia vs. Corona will take place at 3:15pm at Valencia High School and Hart vs. Norco will take place at 3:15pm at Newhall Park. in the finals last year.

The Los Angeles Lakers faced a 20-point deficit with six minutes to play in the third quarter in game one of last nights Western Conference Finals, and then Kobe Bryant took over.  The NBA MVP scored 25 of his 27 points in the final 18 minutes and the Lakers took over the lead with two minutes left, holding on to defeat the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs, 89-85.  Game two is scheduled for tomorrow night at 6:00pm.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took advantage of some suspect defense from Cincinnati and completed a three-game sweep of the Reds with a 5-2 victory last night.  The Dodgers take tonight off before the St. Louis Cardinals come to town tomorrow night for a three game series.  Game one can be heard live on KHTS at 7:00pm tomorrow.
