Hometown Sports Report 3-24-08

 

The Golden Valley Grizzlies got a strong performance from pitcher Cassie Herrera on their way to a 12-0 win over Hoover on Saturday.  The Grizzlies take on Crescenta Valley today at Golden Valley.

 

The Valencia Vikings girl’s track team took home third place at the Santa Barbara Easter Relay’s yesterday.  The Vikings boy’s took home fourth, while the JV team took home first place.

 

Opening Night at the newly renamed Toyota Speedway at Irwindale featured successful performances from lots of Santa Clarita locals in the NASCAR All-American Series.  Valencia’s Conner Cantrell just missed his first win in the Super Truck series, taking home second place.  Valencia’s Joe Anderson was awarded the Hard Charger in the race for passing the most trucks on his way to seventh, and Canyon Country’s Rod Johnson Jr. took home ninth in his second race.  Mark Borchetta of Valencia took home a top-5 in the Legends race.  Travis Thirkettle of Newhall came in eight in the Super Late Model race.

 

The Los Angeles Kings defeated Dallas 4-2 on Saturday.  The Kings take on Anaheim on Wednesday night; live on KHTS at 6:30p.m.
