On March 14, 2008, the Placerita Canyon Nature Center was featured on the KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight. Ian Swift and Ron Kraus dropped by the KHTS Community Resource Station and spoke on-air with host Janice Murray.
The Non-Profit Spotlight airs every Monday and Friday at 10AM on AM-1220 KHTS.
The Placerita Canyon Nature Center is non-profit organization. This natural area is maintained by The County of Los Angeles, Department of Parks & Recreation.Their museum – which is currently undergoing renovations – features exhibits on the natural history of southern California, and a small collection of live animals. You will also discover a network of hiking trails with special guided hikes available including night hikes during the summer months.
The park and nature center not only serves to conserve a slice of the wild environment but is also dedicated to educate the public and help to foster a deeper understanding of our local undisturbed flora and fauna through wild animal shows, nature hikes and educational trails.
Those who are interested in volunteer opportunities at the center are encouraged to attend one of their orientations that are held on the first Saturday of each month at 10am. They also offer a 9-week Docent Certification program.
Renovations at the Nature Center are expected to be complete by this December.
Thanks to Ian Swift and Ron Kraus for stopping by the KHTS Community Resource Station.
