Over 120 community leaders from the Santa Clarita Valley are expected to attend the 2019 KHTS Sacramento Road Trip on March 18 and 19. The trip is set to be hosted this year by State Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita.

“The KHTS Sacramento Road Trip is a unique behind-the-scenes look at how state government works,” Wilk said. “Participants will interact face to face with the decision-makers that drive California’s direction.”

This year’s trip is also expected to include State Assemblyman Tom Lackey, R-Antelope Valley, along with newly elected Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita.

“For years, KHTS has provided the local community the unique opportunity to connect with their state representatives in a comprehensive two-day visit to Sacramento,” Smith said. “As a school board member, I’ve participated in the KHTS Road Trip and know just how valuable it can be. I’m looking forward to welcoming constituents who will join the 2019 delegation.”

While topics are still being finalized, this year’s event is set to focus on a number of issues impacting the state budget. Previous topics have included education, business, film and water issues.

“Our KHTS Sacramento Road trip has become a powerful tradition,” said Carl Goldman, owner of KHTS. “Over the years, we’ve taken over 1,000 Santa Clarita residents to Sacramento to advocate on behalf of issues impacting our valley. What’s so cool is we have democrats and republicans, business leaders, government officials, including our mayor, educators and leaders of many of our local nonprofits.”

Each year, the KHTS Sacramento Road Trip features a keynote speaker at a dinner held the first night of the trip. While this year’s speaker has yet to be announced, previous speakers have included Governor Jerry Brown, Senate Pro-tempore Kevin De Leon and State Treasurer John Chiang.

In addition, KHTS has added a companion trip for the first time for Antelope Valley officials, which is slated to take place six weeks after the Santa Clarita trip on May 6 and 7, 2019.

“Our trips are an incredible way to see how things are run in Sacramento, as well as letting our politicians hear about our challenges,” Goldman said. “Because no other community does anything like this, we make an incredible impact. We’d like to thank Senator Scott Wilk for once again hosting the trip, and thanks to Assemblyman Tom Lackey and our newest Assembly Member Christy Smith for participating and supporting our efforts.”
