KHTS AM 1220 officials are planning to take 110 community leaders to the state capitol March 16 and 17 to discuss issues facing the Santa Clarita Valley.
“It’s hard to believe 10 years have flown by since then Assemblyman Keith Richman and I created this trip. Over the years, we’ve brought up close to one thousand Santa Clarita community leaders to see how Sacramento functions and to allow our voice to be heard on issues impacting our valley,” said KHTS AM 1220 Co-owner Carl Goldman. “Since no other community does anything like this we are really able to make an impact in so many areas. I applaud Assemblyman Scott Wilk and his staff for continuing to carry the baton by supporting and embracing our two day event.”
Participants include the city of Santa Clarita mayor and a majority of City Council members, College of the Canyons Chancellor, school superintendents, Chamber board members, Castaic Lake Water Agency board members, business leaders, CEO’s of non-profit organizations and five students from high schools in the valley.
“What I am looking most forward to is seeing all of our California representatives meeting and collaborating with our Santa Clarita representatives and just to see myself up there with students as a student, and scholarship recipient, with and among these Santa Clarita city representatives,” said Claire Lee. “I think it’s just amazing to have a student perspective and advocate for the students education.”
The five students, who have been give scholarships by California Credit Union, are SCVi students 17-year-old Sydney Croasmun, 17-year-old Jennie Hernandez, 16-year-old Nova Mandel, 16-year-old Canyon High student Rachel Alfred and Golden Valley High School senior Claire Lee.
“We are more than happy to sponsor this amazing trip for the students. We are happy to help our students voice their opinions,” said Brenda Gerdes, financial services representative with California Credit Union. “I really am very happy to be able to represent a credit union so thoughtful and so supportive of the education community.”
