A Chorus Line Returns Print E-mail

1 living room, 9 dancers and a platter of pastrami sandwiches.   This ideal recipe for what became the longest-running show in Broadway history is about to show up in Thousand Oaks.  Just as the famous musical A Chorus Line returns to  Broadway for its long-awaited revival, Cabrillo Music Theatre will simultaneously mount its own production of the smash hit beginning October 27, at the Countrywide Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks.

“Few other venues across the country will be permitted to perform the full-scale Broadway production while the show is running in New York,” said Carole W. Nussbaum, Cabrillo Music Theatre’s President and Chief Executive Officer.  “Cabrillo Music Theatre has been given this very rare opportunity because of its rich history of high standards and quality productions.”

A Chorus Line profiles the stories of seventeen dancers, auditioning for jobs in the chorus of a  new Broadway show.  Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production of A Chorus Line will be directed and choreographed by the award-winning, nationally-acclaimed Kay Cole, who created the role of Maggie (whose song, At The Ballet, is a show highlight) in the original Broadway production.  A Chorus Line was conceived and written with an unprecedented and unique collaboration of creative, production and performing artists.  These performers (including Kay), sitting in a New York apartment, opened up about their lives, histories, and dreams.   It is their stories that became A Chorus Line, winner of 9 Tony Awards, 5 Drama Desk Awards, a New York Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, and a Pulitzer Prize, among numerous other prestigious acknowledgements.  “Kay Cole’s history and passion make her uniquely capable of recreating the energy and emotion of the original Broadway production, but with a universal appeal to contemporary audiences,” Nussbaum says.

Rounding out the production team for A Chorus Line will be Darryl Archibald, who will serve as Musical Director and Conductor, as he did on the recent Cabrillo production of The Music Man.  Overseeing the production will be Cabrillo Music Theatre’s Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld.  A Chorus Line features dazzling, show-stopping numbers such as I Can Do That and One (Singular Sensation), along with the heartwarming and memorable What I Did For Love.  A Chorus Line is recommended for mature audiences.

Cabrillo Music Theatre is the resident musical theatre company of the Countrywide Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.  For over three decades, Cabrillo has been enriching the cultural life of Ventura County and its surrounding areas by providing an extraordinary performing arts experience through live, Broadway-quality productions of musical theatre. It is Cabrillo’s mission to provide the highest quality musical experience, to foster educational opportunities, and to promote cultural and artistic enrichment to enhance the quality of life in our community.  To this end, Cabrillo Music Theatre has established the Adopt-A-School program, which has proven to be a successful OUTREACH program for underserved schools.  Through the Adopt-A-School program, Cabrillo makes live theatre accessible to children who otherwise may never have the opportunity to experience a live musical theatre performance.  Each performance, Cabrillo Music Theatre donates hundreds of tickets to schools for the benefit of these children.

A Chorus Line performs at the Kavli Theatre October 27th through November 5th, and plays Thursdays – Saturdays at 8:00pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00pm, and, due to high demand, an added Sunday evening performance on October 29th, at 7:00pm.  Tickets for A Chorus Line are on sale now and may be purchased at the Countrywide Performing Arts Center Box Office located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks, (805) 449-2782, or through any Ticketmaster location or by phone (805) 583-8700.  For groups of 12 or more, please call Group Sales, Cabrillo Music Theatre at (805) 497-8615.  Ticket prices range from $19 – 48.  For additional information, please call Carole W. Nussbaum, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cabrillo Music Theatre at (805) 497-8613 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
