It only takes a “Matter of Minutes” for a child to suffer from heatstroke, carbon monoxide poisoning, brain damage, physical injuries, be abducted or even die when left unattended in or around a vehicle.

 

The City of Santa Clarita is teaming up with the Child Care Resource Center to launch the “Matter of Minutes” educational and awareness campaign to remind drivers to NEVER leave a child unattended in, or around a car. The City and Child Care Resource Center will hold a press event demonstrating the dangers of children left in cars on Thursday, July 20, 2:30 p.m. at Power Chevrolet, located at 23649 West Valencia Boulevard in Valencia.

 

“It is important for us to spread the word about leaving children in cars, especially during these hot summer months,” said Laurene Weste, City Mayor. “In America, many children die each year from being left unattended in a vehicle. Since January this year, 10 deaths have already occurred in this country. Fortunately, it has never happened in our City and this educational campaign is designed to help prevent these types of tragedies from ever happening.”

 

Santa Clarita City council members, other City officials and campaign supporters will be present and will speak on the issues and concerns surrounding the campaign. Demonstrations will be performed to show the dangers of leaving a child alone in a vehicle and what can happen in a “Matter of Minutes.”
