REP Puts on Two Critically Acclaimed One-Act Plays
The Repertory East Playhouse and Patrick Lopez, Owner of Keller Williams VIP Properties proudly presents an evening of outstanding one-act plays this summer in the form of ‘Black Comedy’ and ‘The Real Inspector Hound.’ Directed with panache by the talented Barbara Huntington, these British farces have been acclaimed worldwide as witty, stylish, and hysterically funny!

Who is the Real Inspector Hound? Writer Tom Stoppard gives a rousing send up to British murder mysteries with a touch of farce thrown in for good measure. A secluded English country manor house, ominous radio reports of a criminal on the loose, visitors behaving suspiciously, a relative with a shady past and an unidentified dead body hidden behind the sofa—these oh-so-familiar plot devices have been packed into this comic spoof of the whodunits popularized by Agatha Christie. Constructed as a play-within-a-play, The Real Inspector Hound opens with two competing theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot, settling into their seats ready to review the latest mystery. In time, both find themselves literally drawn into the comedy, playing roles leading to the climax of the plot when the murderer’s identity is revealed to all.

Light is dark and dark is light in the outstanding farce ‘Black Comedy’, written by Peter Shaffer. Brindsley Miller and his fiancée Carol Melkett have "borrowed" the fancy furniture from neighbor Harold Gorringe's flat in order to impress Carol's father, Colonel Melkett, and ‘mystery millionaire’ art dealer Georg Bamberger. Brindsley, an artist, is afraid that the Colonel will not give up his daughter to a starving artist. Things go awry when the lights go out, leaving Brindlsey helpless as characters arrive, one by one. First is Brindsley's elderly neighbor, Miss Furnival. Colonel Melkett, unimpressed by the blackout, arrives, and Brindsley's worst nightmare comes true as Harold returns early, and Brindsley tries desperately to return the furniture without Harold noticing.
The repertory cast for both shows includes; Amber Clark, George D. Cummings, Damian D’Entremont, Gaynor Kelly, Trevor Kimball, Daniel Lench, Mikee Schwinn and Nicole White.

Produced by Artistic Director Ovington Michael Owston, performances will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM, and Sundays at 2PM from July 28th through September 2nd. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 661-288-0000 or online at repeastplayhouse.org.

The Repertory East Playhouse is located at 24266 San Fernando Road in Old Town Newhall. We’ll see you at the show!
