Rep. McKeon Invites Students to Academy Night 2005 Print E-mail
U.S. Rep Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) announced that his office will host an "Academy Night" to help inform students about the application and selection processes for U.S. Military Service Academies. The Academy Night will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. at William S. Hart High School (in the cafeteria), 24825 N. Newhall Avenue, in Santa Clarita.

"Our military service academies offer students top-notch educational opportunities that prepare them for careers in the U.S. military and as leaders of our nation," said Rep. McKeon.  "I urge all students interested in pursuing an education at the service academies to participate in Academy Night 2005.  Our informative program will offer students and parents valuable insight into academy life and the admissions process."

Academy Night 2005 is open to high school sophomores, juniors, seniors, and their parents, along with all interested young men and women ages 17 to 21 who are residents of the 25th Congressional District and will be high school graduates by July 1, 2006. The evening is geared toward potential applicants to military academies for the 2006-2007 academic year.

McKeon said representatives from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD., the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO., and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. will be on hand to explain their programs in detail. Prospective students and their parents will have the opportunity to meet individually with representatives.

Dr. Clyde Smyth, former superintendent of William S. Hart Union High School District, who coordinates Rep. McKeon's academy program, will conduct the meeting.

No reservations are required. For additional information, contact Rep. McKeon's office at (661) 254-2111 (Santa Clarita Valley), (661) 274-9688 (Antelope Valley), (818) 885-1032 (Sunland and Tujunga).
