Santa Clarita Celebrates First Annual Oak Tree Day Print E-mail

The City of Santa Clarita is proud to present the first annual Oak Tree Day on November 5, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Canyon Country Park. The event is free and open to the public. Canyon Country Park is located at 17615 West Soledad Canyon Road. The oak tree is the official tree of the City of Santa Clarita. Oak Tree Day was established to celebrate the significance of this beautiful component of the local landscape. The event will feature environmental exhibitors, informational booths, and numerous activities to promote awareness about the importance of oak trees in the local environment. The day will be capped off by a volunteer oak tree planting at the park. Folks who come out will have the opportunity to participate in the oak tree planting and will also be given an oak tree care demonstration by City arborists. The City will be giving away a limited number of free oak trees and bags of mulch for those in attendance. Copies of the City’s Oak Tree Ordinance will also be available. Residents will also have all of their oak tree related questions answered at a special question and answer session led by City staff and expert guests. Informational booths will be presented by The Santa Clarita Oak Conservancy, The Sierra Club, the Friends of the Santa Clara River, the LA County Fire Department Forestry Division, and SCOPE. “The City of Santa Clarita is pleased to hold the first annual Oak Tree Day,” said Mayor Cameron Smyth. “Oak trees are such an important part of the heritage of the City and we are excited about starting this tradition.”
