VIAs President Elect To Speak At Memorial Day Observance Print E-mail
During this Memorial Day weekend, we want to wish each of you a safe and enjoyable holiday!  We also want to remind you of the true purpose of the upcoming holiday – it is a time to reflect upon the sacrifices that military members and their families have made so that we might enjoy our freedom.  Please take a moment on Monday to give thanks for the gift they have given us.

For those of you who would like to take part in a more formal, public remembrance ceremony, consider going to the Eternal Valley Memorial Park here in Santa Clarita on Monday to pay your respects to the veterans interred there.   The cemetery will be decked out with U.S. flags at each gravesite, and at 10:00 am a short remembrance ceremony will be conducted, with a color guard presentation, remarks by local officials, and a flyover of military aircraft.  This will be an opportunity for you to join with others to celebrate the day in an appropriate way. If you have never participated in such a ceremony, you are missing a deeply moving experience that will leave you with a much better appreciation of the spirit and purpose of the holiday.

This year, Bill Kennedy, a retired USAF Colonel and a VIA member, will be one of the featured speakers at the event.  VIA is proud of the community they serve and pleased that their members are actively involved in community events such as this.

Eternal Valley Memorial Park is in Santa Clarita near Highway 14 on Sierra Highway just south of San Fernando Road.  Attendees are advised to arrive no later than 9:30 to allow time for parking.
