Alert resident calls deputies to catch thief on wheels.

Beware of scooter-riding visitors in the darkness – it was enough to make a suspicious Canyon Country resident call deputies Wednesday morning, resulting in the arrest of a 25-year old prowler on wheels.

Ricardo Cortes, 25, of Canyon Country was booked for suspicion of felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanor petty theft after deputies caught him cruising along a line of parked cars, trying the door handles.

The resident who called the sheriff saw Cortes riding a Razor scooter in the 18000 block of American Beauty Drive and stopping periodically. Deputies responding found that Cortes was in possession of items they suspect were taken from unlocked cars, including sunglasses, a DVD player and jewelry.

Cortes was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley station, where he was held in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is expected to be in court today.
