A new community has secured its place in line to be considered for annexation into the City of Santa Clarita.

An application to annex the small section of the Castaic area including the Hasley Hills neighborhood and the ValenciaCommerce Center has been submitted by the City to the Local Agency Formation Commission, which will decide whether or not the City can take control.

The process is notoriously long, and while the application is processing, Los Angeles County and the City of Santa Clarita will be waiting on a study into the feasibility for several of the big communities to annex into Santa Clarita.

ImageCastaic, Westridge and Stevenson Ranch are currently not a part of the City, and therefore governed by Los AngelesCounty. The communities were given $25,000 by Los Angeles County over a year ago to complete a study comparing the benefits and detriments to forming their own city verses staying with the County.

In response, Santa Clarita gave the communities $25,000 to also study the benefits of joining the City.

The study has been delayed as information has been slow to come from the County, however they anticipate it could be complete in the next year.
