Special recognition will be given to World War II and Korean War veterans, but all veterans will receive “thank you” cards when they arrive from local scouts.

2008 is the 20th anniversary of the SCV Veterans Memorial Committee and the 50th anniversary of Eternal ValleyMemorial Park. Santa Clarita City Manager Ken Pulskamp will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the ceremony.

The ceremonies will be held near the entrance to the park, where the SCV Concert Band will play selections of 1940’s era music. At 10 a.m., a Condor Squadron will fly overhead, making two passes.

Colors will be presented by the JROTC Color Guard and Eagle Scout Nathan Crookston from Troop 496 will lead guests in the pledge of allegiance. Representatives of each branch of the Armed Forces will post the flags of their branch, as well as a POW-MIA flag and flags from Chapter 355 of the Vietnam Veterans of America/Lost Patrol, VFW Post 6885, VFW Post 6110 and American Legion Post 507.

The national anthem will be sung by Patti King, Alison King, Trisha Kruger and Cheralyn Goeckeritz. The invocation will be given by Rev. Richard Guy Belliss of St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

U.S. Army First Sgt. Richard W. Casper (Ret.) will be the guest speaker. After a flyover by the 452nd Air Mobility Wing from March AFB, piloted by Lt. Col Tim Harris, USAF, the drill team will perform and the 820 names inscribed on the Veterans Memorial will be read aloud.

A performance of “Taps” by Lenny Schaustal and Darrell Morrow will follow a rifle salute by the All-Veterans Burial Squad.

Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the event.
