Widespread outage affected over 24,000 customers...

UPDATED: 2:38pm

Power went out suddenly Sunday afternoon shortly after noon when a substation in the Newhall area went down for unknown reasons.

According to Edison, the outage affected 24,000 homes and businesses in the downtown Newhall area and parts of Valencia, including the Summit and areas on the west side of Santa Clarita, including Circle J. Ranch and Stevenson Ranch.

Edison spokeswoman Nancy Williams told KHTS that within minutes of the initial outage, which occurred at 12:01, 15,000 customers regained power, with the rest regaining power by 2:30pm.

The cause of the outage has not been determined, but Edison is continuing to investigate.
