In celebration of the City of Santa Clarita’s oak trees and to help promote their protection, the City of Santa Clarita’s Urban Forestry division is hosting, for the second year, Oaktober!

Throughout the month of Oaktober, the City will be sponsoring numerous events that promote and educate on the fact that oak trees are a native species that thrive in Santa Clarita.

During the month of Oaktober, the City of Santa Clarita’s Urban Forestry Division will be holding the Oak Tree give-a-way where free 15-gallon oak trees will be given to all City residents. The Oaktober! Free Oak Tree give-a-way will take place on three different days throughout the month. On Friday, October 17th, and Friday, October 24th it will go from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Central Park Nursery and on Saturday, October 25th the give-away will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will take place at Todd Longshore Park.

“The City of Santa Clarita is committed to increasing the understanding of the Oak Tree Ordinance on private property because oak trees and their care are a high priority for our community and for the City,” commented Councilmember Laurene Weste.

Additionally, there will be Oaktober! School Tree Plantings on Tuesday, October 14 at Leona Cox Elementary from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and at Valencia High School at 2:00 pm. Oak tree plantings will also occur throughout the month and will include twenty new oak trees planted on Make a Difference Day at Todd Longshore Park on Saturday, October 25.
