Thursday, 24 July 2008

Probation sweeps result in weapons confiscation, seizure of drugs and money.

During the month of June, probation officers confiscated 103 weapons -- including 31 handguns and 15 rifles/shotguns, more than $1.5 million in illegal drugs and arrested 206 probationers during 2,189 unannounced searches of residences, persons, vehicles, and businesses, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced Wednesday.

Since its implementation in February of 2000, the probation department’s D.I.S.A.R.M (Developing Increased Safety through Arms Reduction Management) program has seized 4,275 weapons and more than $298 million in illegal drugs and drug money, and resulted in 9,545 arrests.  20% of probationers in this program have been out of compliance with their terms of probation.
