Diane Hamburger will be replacing past Saugus High Assistant Principal Rick Obar, who retired.
Diane Hamburger, who has been a science teacher at Saugus High School since 1989, has been named the school’s new assistant principal. The Wm. S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board confirmed the appointment at its June 25 meeting, and was put in effect July 1.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Hamburger has occasionally served as a substitute administrator at Saugus since 2002.  She was co-coordinator of the school’s Focus on Learning study which is required for accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). She also served as a summer school administrative intern at Hart High School in 2003.

Hamburger earner her bachelor’s degree at Concordia Teachers College, with an education major. She earned her master’s degree in educational services with an administrative credential from the University of LaVerne. Known for her innovative methods of teaching hands-on science, Hamburger has been a mentor in the district’s support program for beginning teachers.

She was Teacher of the Year for Saugus High School in 2004 and has served as Science Department chair at Saugus High School for 10 years. She has also helped develop new curriculum for chemistry, earth science and physical science classes in the Hart District. She currently is teaching five classes of Honors Chemistry at Saugus.

“Mrs. Hamburger will be an outstanding addition to the Saugus administrative team,” commented Rochelle Neal, assistant superintendent of human resources. “For the past 19 years she has been a well-respected science teacher at Saugus High.  I am confident that Diane’s successful experiences in the classroom, the multiple leadership roles she has held, and her warm personality make her a natural fit this position at Saugus High School.”
