Tragedy and comedy are both available on May 9 and 10 in the Theater Room at Saugus High School, when the Advanced Drama class presents two one-hour plays featuring 21 outstanding young Saugus actors.

The first play, which begins at 7 p.m., is entitled “Deoxyribonucleic Acid.” DNA is a serious play about teens who try to cover up a not-so-accidental death. The second play, which begins at 8:30 p.m., is a hilarious comedy about teenage love and school rivalries, featuring a Cupid statue that comes to life.

In DNA, eight teenagers are gripped with panic when their teasing causes poor Adam (played by Brian Tran) to fall

down a dark hole to his death. Phil proposes an elaborate cover-up that involves false DNA evidence and a false accusation and orders to everyone to keep their mouths shut.

But is Adam really dead? Will scaredy-cat Brian be able to lie to the police? And how did Cathy get real DNA evidence? Suspense and violence made this drama one of the five best new plays for youth in England last year. "Deoxyribonucleic Acid "begins at 7 p.m.

At 8:30 p.m., the mood switches to one of hilarious comedy. Based on Shakespeare's Midsummer's Night Dream, “Ruckus in the Garden” takes place in a formal garden full of Cupid statues where two rival schools discover they are both on the same field trip.

Under the influence of a Cupid statue which suddenly comes to life, combatants suddenly become confused friends.
The low-income kids from Riverdale plan to have a "ruckus in the garden" with the rich kids from St. Nectan's, and a fight breaks out.  Stanley tries non-violence. Rock tries hiding in the bushes. Cupid tries switching identities.  Love, magic and laughter bring two schools—and two pairs of young lovers—back together.

Tickets are $3 for students and $4 for adults at the Saugus High School theater box office.
