On March 15, 2007, AM-1220 KHTS was pleased to welcome the Placerita Canyon Nature Center to the KHTS Community Resource Station – located at the Westfield Valencia Town Center as our Non-Pofit Spotlight. The KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight Show is hosted by Janice Murray and sponsored by Valencia Acura.

We spoke with Michael Grenetz who is with California Wild Heritage Campaign. Michael leads nature hikes at the park. The Community Hiking Club at the Nature Center can schedule hikes for individuals, families and organizations to experience the beautiful trails that are located in Placerita Canyon and other areas surrounding the Santa Clarita Valley. Self-guiding nature, history and hiking trails can be accessed from the Center, with longer hikes leading to a seasonal waterfall and to the top of the Santa Clarita Divide. The grounds surrounding the Nature Center are ideal for picnicking.

The Placerita Canyon Nature Center museum contains exhibits on the natural history of our local area and Southern California. You can also see live animals that are native to the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Nature Center and Park not only serves to conserve a slice of the wild environment but also endeavors to educate the public on the value of undisturbed flora and fauna.
