Cary Quashen, the founder and CEO of Action Family Counseling drug and alcohol rehab centers and the nonprofit Action Family Foundation, joined McGraw last week to offer assistance to a family being affected by alcoholism.
“It was a family in crisis,” Quashen said. “We have a wife that is a hardcore alcoholic and very abusive with three daughters that came on the show to do an intervention. Her husband also is an alcoholic. The focus of the whole show is to get everybody healthy and to make sure that their daughters are safe.”

The goal of the on-air intervention was to help the family “out of crisis” and take the necessary steps toward getting both parents into treatment while also reaching a larger audience who may be able to relate to their situation.
“Going on national TV is a whole lot more exposure and we can reach a lot more people that are dealing with the same issues,” Quashen said. “It’s extremely exciting because not only can we help this family, we can reach many many other families and let them know that there’s always hope.”
Action Family Counseling has 12 drug and alcohol treatment center locations and 16 programs that specialize in alcohol and substance abuse for teens and adults, including sober living facilities in Bakersfield and the Santa Clarita Valley.
Quashen has spent the past 30 years working with adults and adolescents struggling with addiction and has become a nationally recognized expert.
“I believe there’s no bad people– there’s people that make bad decisions,” he said. “We can recover. Please reach out and ask for help. Never be afraid. You don’t have to do it alone.”
