Officers from the Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control are planning to conduct pet licensing enforcement in the unincorporated areas of Newhall and Castaic beginning November 24, department officials announced Wednesday.

Enforcement efforts are designed to ensure that residents’ dogs and cats are in compliance with licensing requirements and the mandatory spay/neuter and microchip ordinance.
California state law requires that all dogs and cats over the age of four months be licensed and vaccinated against rabies.

Los Angeles County residents not in compliance are subject to license fees and delinquency charges, including a $40 field enforcement fee to offset the cost of the department’s field services.
Department of Animal Care and Control officials offer low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics, as well as low-cost spay/neuter assistance for individuals who qualify.
Licensing assists animal control agencies if the pet becomes lost, according to officials. New or renewed animal licenses can be obtained online or by visiting a Los Angeles County animal care center.
