The extradition process is underway for a suspected cop killer to return to the United States, where authorities will seek a life sentence without the possibility of parole, officials said at a press conference Friday. Jorge Arroyo Garcia, aka Armando “Chato” Garcia, was apprehended shortly after noon on Thursday by a team of Mexican police officers conducting surveillance outside the home of the suspect’s uncle in Tonala, a suburb of Guadalajara. Garcia is suspected of gunning down Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy David March on April 29, 2002, during what should have been a routine traffic stop in Irwindale. “This is a landmark day in a nearly four-year effort to bring the suspected killer of sheriff’s Deputy David March to justice,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley. “The arrest was the culmination of literally thousands of hours of work,” he said. “It all led to the long-awaited capture of the suspected cold-blooded murderer of one of our peace officers.”
