Bill Aims to Crack Down on Nuisance

Proposed state bill would allow local governments to apply new restrictions to existing businesses.

A bill making its way through the state Legislature would grant local governments the right to retroactively apply zoning ordinances to existing liquor stores.
    Senate Bill 148, currently before the Assembly Governmental Organization Committee, aims to crack down on nuisance businesses where littering and public drinking are a problem, said Arwen Chenery, legislative director for state Sen. Jack Scott, D-Pasadena.
