City May Get $700,000 for Road Repairs

About $700,000 in road-repair funds will come to the city of Santa Clarita under a plan from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to restore Proposition 42 funds that were cut back in January, officials said Friday.
The $700,000 — which the city could spend at its discretion as long is it’s used for road maintenance — would be Santa Clarita’s chunk of some $127 million freed up statewide.

“Restoring Proposition 42 funds will end the traffic jam that has put many transportation projects at a standstill,” said state Sen. George Runner, R-Antelope Valley.
Money specified for road maintenance frees up other funds the city would have set aside for general maintenance, Runner said.
