The City of Santa Clarita, fresh off the unveiling of their Transit bus wrapped in anti-Cemex advertising, took the bus for a spin Monday morning to a press event in Universal City.

Volunteers, including this reporter, climbed aboard the flashiest bus in town at 9:30, seated just a few rows from Mayor Laurene Weste and Councilman Bob Kellar.

As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t classify the day as a protest. The very word “protest” seems a bit to lethargic and misguided. In contrast, Santa Clarita has been on the forefront of this issue and continues to lead the fight against Cemex in a proactive manner. Today’s event was geared towards taking the issue outside of Santa Clarita.

CNN and NBC came out to roll tape and capture the plight the city, and the message was clear; this issue is Los Angeles County wide concern.

The anti-Cemex message on the bus will stay on “as long as it takes” according to Mayor Weste. The bus is a commuter bus, and currently travels into Los Angeles twice a day, and that will continue.
