City to Develop 10-Year Plan for Transportation

As Santa Clarita grows, so does the need for effective transportation. In light of that, the city’s transit division is formulating a 10-year vision to update its transportation plan. The update is a project that will focus on 2006 through 2015, including research and presentation of transit service needs, in addition to crafting a financial plan. Once complete, the plan will evaluate transit service needs in Newhall, Canyon Country, Saugus and Valencia, plus communities in neighboring unincorporated Los Angeles County. A public participation meeting regarding the plan is scheduled at 11 a.m. on March 18 in the Century Room at City Hall. The meeting is intended to give residents a forum to provide input about transit services and needs. “The (city’s) transit system is one of the fastest-growing public transportation providers in Los Angeles County,” interim transit manager Dianna Boone said in a statement. “We hope that by updating our transportation development plan we can continue to provide quality service to the growing population in and around Santa Clarita.” Santa Clarita Transit includes local bus routes, commuter bus service and Dial-a-Ride, which provides curbside transportation to the physically disabled or those who otherwise cannot drive.
