Piggybacked atop a 747, the space shuttle departed Friday for its journey back to Florida base.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE — The space shuttle Discovery left Edwards Air Force Base on Friday for a multiple-leg trip back to its Florida home, drawing a sprinkling of spectators to the High Desert for its sendoff.
