District Students Show Impressive Academic Scores Print E-mail
The state has released its Academic Performance Index (API) Growth reports based on last spring’s STAR test scores — and the results are good for schools across the William S. Hart Union High School District.

â€śThere was great growth on all the schools,” said Vicki Engbrecht, director of curriculum and assessment for the Hart district. “We’re very pleased with the work we’ve done. Our standards-based instruction has started to show.”
Saugus and Canyon high schools made the most notable gains — 63 and 48 API points, respectively. Placerita Junior High showed the largest growth, with Sierra Vista right behind it. API growth at all schools was even more dramatic in the Hispanic and socioeconomically disadvantaged subgroups.
API scores are expressed on a scale from 200 to 800 and are based on the performance of individual students on the California Standards Tests for English/language arts and math and, to a lesser degree, the CAT/6, which covers all subjects.
The statewide performance target for 2002 was 800.
