An environmental group has filed suit against Newhall County Water District, claiming the agency violated environmental standards when it agreed to annex a Newhall industrial center into its borders.
The amended complaint, filed by California Water Impact Network on Aug. 24, also names the water district board, which approved annexation of the Gate-King Industrial Park in January. The city of Santa Clarita, Gate King Properties and Mark Gates Jr., who owns the lion’s share of the proposed industrial park, were named as real parties in interest. Santa Clarita supports the development, which would take in some 170 acres but set aside another 275 acres for open space, parks and roads.
