A bloody crash involving three big rigs and an ambulance injured six, including an 8-year-old boy, and blocked Interstate 5 for most of Friday with tons of scattered, nearly unrecognizable wreckage.
The most severely injured victims were transported to one of three different nearby hospitals. None of the victims were local residents.
Emergency workers shut down northbound lanes at Valencia Boulevard for more than 40 minutes following the 11:15 a.m. collisions, then opened the left shoulder to a single lane of traffic. The rest of the northbound I-5 lanes remained closed until just before 5 p.m., backing up traffic for nearly 12 miles into the San Fernando Valley.
