Its Official: Assemblyman Cameron Smyth Takes Oath |

 Today at 12:00 noon, Cameron Smyth was sworn in to the California State Assembly.
It was a tender goodbye last Tuesday, as the city council saw Cameron Smyth’s last vote. The first portion of the meeting was devoted to staff’s reminiscing, and presentations.
Smyth was given a key to the city for his tireless work and dedication, along with several other presentations from Buck McKeon’s office, Michael Antonovich’s office, and the Sheriff’s Dept.
While everybody wished him well, there was one point which truly showed that humor could be found in every situation. Several members of the public had spoken, admonishing the council for not holding a special election, and Mayor Laurene Weste said to Smyth: “We are really happy for you, but you’re making our jobs very hard right now!” Laughter followed with the crowd.
Smyth also made light of his new position, saying that the speaker of the house knows him as Cameron Smith, and an increasingly large amount of democrats have somehow interpreted his name as Curt Smith.
But the tone did have an air of seriousness; Smyth said that when he finished orientation, he was brought down to the house floor, where his name lit up the board for the very first time. “No matter who you are, the respect for the office was evident in that moment. I’m going to fight for what we believe in,” Said Smyth.
When Smyth gave his final words, he thanked the public. He noted that all he does is really because the public allows him to do it. He quoted Teddy Roosevelt:
"It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat."
