Judge Denies Lower Bail for Sex Offender

A registered sex offender appeared in the Newhall Courthouse to be arraigned on new charges Friday while his worried neighbors gathered on the street near Canyon High School.

“God, I’m speechless,” said Esterbrook Avenue resident Bobbie Henrie, 50. “You know, you hear about it elsewhere, but in the neighborhood, whoa.”
Donald “Dutch” Hearne, 58, was arrested earlier this week at his home on Esterbrook after he was accused of performing illegal piercings on underage teens without parental consent, as well as making sexually suggestive remarks and gestures to some girls.
Hearne, who wore dark blue jail garb, was soft-spoken during his court appearance Friday afternoon. Judge Lloyd Nash agreed to postpone Hearne’s arraignment until March 10 and denied the serious-risk sex offender’s request to lower his bail from $90,000.
